BIOGRAPHY

Dmitry Filimonov was born in a small village in the Ulyanovsk region and faced difficult circumstances early on: the death of his parents, violence and the need to seek support outside the traditional family. After their deaths, he was raised by his older sister.

At the age of 14, Dmitry moved to Ulyanovsk, Russia and enrolled in the College of Culture and Art, studying landscape design. From 2016 to 2022, he studies in the department of monumental and decorative painting at the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Fine Arts.

After experiencing a depressive episode in 2021, Dmitry fully immerses himself in painting, which becomes his main occupation, and a way of recovery.

In 2022, he leaves Russia, moving to Tbilisi, where he creates his first series of ceramic sculptures.

Since September 2024 Dmitry lives and works in Paris.

All of Dmitry's work is based on the processing and reflection of traumatic experiences in childhood. All the unspoken pain found its embodiment in the images of clowns and anthropomorphic characters. For him, this is a way to escape from the cruel and chaotic reality into the world of his own fantasies, where there are no rules invented by society and no social stigma.
